Alvin Brown mailer recycles claims about “Republican Party boss” Lenny Curry

A mailing sent on behalf of the Alvin Brown campaign to registered Democrats (“Public records show you’re a reliable voter”) from the Florida Democratic Party synthesizes “Next Level” messaging with its now familiar denunciations of “Republican Party Boss” Lenny Curry.

The front of the mailer features paeans to “safer streets, more jobs, [and] better schools,” the goals of most politicians, and the assertion of which stands as proof that “Mayor Brown is Taking Jacksonville to the Next Level.” The contention is bolstered by a shot of a purposefully striding  Brown, flanked by burly police officers, all of whom look commensurately purposeful.

The back of the mailer continues the Next Level theme, contending that by “casting your vote for safer neighborhoods, more jobs, and better schools, you can help take Jacksonville to the next level” which would include “better schools for our kids” along with “more and higher-paying jobs” and “safer neighborhoods for everyone.”

This mailer does not address the question of whether Curry is for or against better schools, more and higher-paying jobs, or safer neighborhoods for everyone. It does, however, reiterate a line of argument that was prominent in the debate between Brown and Curry on Monday night, indicting “Republican Party Boss Lenny Curry” for “blocking African-American voter rights” and “political allies are polluting the St. Johns River.”

Brown has been quite explicit this week in saying that just as he is judged on his record as mayor, so too should Curry be judged on his tenure as RPOF chairman. The mailer leaves out the description of Curry as “divisive and dangerous” or as being inclined to “turn back the clock.” However, it is a reminder to the base that Brown’s Republican opponent has, in fact, worked in the Republican Party hierarchy.
