Gov. Rick Scott announced on Friday nine appointments to a variety of state boards and commissions.
Broward College District Board of Trustees
Scott began by naming David Maymon to the Broward College District Board of Trustees.
Maymon, 38, of Fort Lauderdale, has been the owner of Advocate Home Care since 2007. He previously served on the Broward County Small Business Advisory Board and the Fort Lauderdale Community Services Board. Maymon succeeds Elizabeth Tonkin for a term ending May 31, 2018.
Scott then reappointed Matthew Carlucci to the Florida Commission on Ethics, a nine-member board that serves as the guardian of the standards of conduct for officers and employees of Florida and its political subdivisions. The Commission investigates and issues public reports on complaints of breaches of the public trust by public officers and employees, and renders legally binding advisory opinions on ethics laws and the State’s financial disclosure laws.
Carlucci, 59, of Jacksonville, is state farm agent with Matthew F Carlucci Insurance Agency Inc. He previously served as the president of the Jacksonville City Council and currently serves as a member of the Jacksonville Historical Society and other various boards. Carlucci is reappointed for a term ending June 30, 2016.
Florida Faith-Based and Community-Based Advisory Council
Next, Scott chose Pastor Marcus Smith for the Florida Faith-Based and Community-Based Advisory Council, a formal advisory council to the Executive Office of the Governor and to the Legislature. The Council helps expand the work of the state’s volunteer faith-based and community-based organizations.
Smith, 33, of Gretna, is the deputy manager of the Office for Prevention and Victim Services for the Department of Juvenile Justice and the senior pastor and president of Beulah Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He succeeds Pastor Charles Scriven for a term ending July 18, 2017.
Miami Dade College District Board of Trustees
Scott named former state House candidate Daniel Diaz Leyva to the Miami Dade College District Board of Trustees.
Leyva, 35, of Miami, has been an attorney with Foley & Lardner since 2014 and with Infante Zumpano from 2009 to 2014. He has served on the board of advisors for the University of Miami Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies since 2011, the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund Regional Council since 2012, and the Florida Health Choices Board of Directors since 2013. Leyva previously served on the CHARLEE Homes for Children from 2004 to 2013, and the Latin Builders Association Board of Directors from 2009 to 2011. He succeeds Jose Fuentes for a term ending May 31, 2018.
Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council
Scott appointed both Yvonne Boice and Suzanne Niedland to the Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council, which serves as an advisory body to the Department of Economic Opportunity and the Florida Office of Film and Entertainment for insight and expertise related to the entertainment industry. Both terms ends August 20, 2018.
Boice, 77, of Boca Raton, is a businesswoman with the Shoppes on 18th Street. She succeeds Michael Ossi.
Niedland, 51, of Jupiter, is the managing director of BusEye Films LLC. She succeeds Frank Patterson.
Children’s Trust Governing Board of Miami-Dade County
Lastly, Scott announced three appointments to the Children’s Trust Governing Board of Miami-Dade, an independent special district to address the needs of children in the community.
Tiombe Bisa Kendrick-Dunn, 41, of Miami, is a school psychologist for the Miami-Dade County School Board. She succeeds Roymi Membiela for a term ending March 17, 2018.
Eveline Pierre, 44, of Miami, is the founder and executive director of the First Haitian Heritage Museum. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending March 17, 2017.
Lileana de Moya, 58, of Coral Gables, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the De Moya Foundation. She is reappointed for a term ending March 17, 2018.
