Just hours before a Friday evening vote on the state budget which will, with any luck, put to bed the specter of a government shutdown and/or constitutional crisis, Gov. Rick Scott announced that he will be taking his message of cutting taxes on the road.
The “KEEP FLORIDA WORKING” Tax Cut Victory Tour, as his office called it in a news release, will stop in seven major cities throughout the state and tout the governor’s commitment to fiscal conservatism as evidenced through the — admittedly less ambitious than it began — $439 million tax package Scott signed into law on Wednesday.
The plan includes a handful of provisions that will yield a modest savings to many Florida taxpayers and reduce general revenue from those streams beginning this fiscal year.
“Floridians can spend their money better than government can, and I am proud that this tax cut will save money for Florida families who pay a cell phone, cable or satellite TV bill,” said scott in a written statement Friday.
“On Monday, we will join Floridians from South Florida to Pensacola to celebrate their big victory. With Florida’s economy continuing to grow, we will stay focused on our mission of making Florida the number one state for job creation by giving Floridians back more of their hard-earned money,” Scott continued.
Scott’s victory lap will consist of whistle-stops in the following cities, listed in chronological order. The full schedule of times will be release on Sunday, per the governor’s office:

- Jacksonville
- Miami
- Orlando
- Pensacola
- St. Petersburg
- West Palm Beach
