When we last checked on Angela Corey, she was launching her “grassroots” campaign with a petition drive, with dozens of lawyers by her side at the Jacksonville Landing.
Now? The 4th District state attorney has an eighth of a million dollars to go along with those trusty grassroots.
The Re-elect Angela Corey Campaign has reported its first contribution donor information, and it’s an impressive tally.
In June, Angela Corey raised $137,428.74: $126,555 in cash and $10,873.74 of in-kind donations.
In a quote, Corey stayed on message.
“We are thrilled with the overwhelming support and generous donations for our campaign,” Corey said.
Corey’s only declared opponent, Wes White, has yet to report June numbers.
Corey’s contributors constitute a broad-based coalition, including Assistant State Attorney Bernie De La Rionda and his wife, myriad members of the Mussallem family (best known in Jacksonville for its art gallery), Fitzhugh Powell, Lauri-Ellen Smith and W.W. Gay.
Meanwhile, in the public defender race, there is fundraising stasis. The only declared candidate, Mike Weinstein, reported no June fundraising. And given that he is Jacksonville’s new chief financial officer, there probably will be no future fundraising. That leaves the field wide open for scandal-tinged incumbent Matt Shirk to run again, possibly unopposed.
