The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has many traditions. One of them, crime prevention walks through neighborhoods with such issues, is going to be continued by new Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams on Saturday.
The first Williams walk takes place at 11 a.m. at the Eureka Gardens apartment complex on the Westside.
On its Facebook page, the JSO posted that “Sheriff Williams is continuing in the JSO tradition of Crime Prevention Walks throughout the city to meet with citizens ‘one-on-one’ discussing crime and crime prevention in their neighborhoods.”
Donald Foy, of the MAD DADS group, asserts that his organization will be joining Sheriff Williams on the walk.
“We all have to [be] a part of the change we want here in Jacksonville. We must build trust between citizens and the Sheriff’s Office, if we want a safe city for all. See you there. We can Break The Code Of Silence together.”
During the contentious campaign for Sheriff, Williams’ opponent, Ken Jefferson, stayed overnight in an RV on the Eureka Gardens grounds. More recently, Eureka Gardens has been in the news, when Jacksonville’s city council passed a resolution to urge HUD to remove funding from Eureka Gardens and other Section 8 complexes with unresolved violent crime issues.
