Lenny Curry gets FDOT action on Liberty Street

Mayor Jacksonville Curry

One of the recurrent issues during the mayoral campaign: the “Liberty Street Collapse.” Candidate Lenny Curry promised action on it.

Mayor Lenny Curry delivered.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has moved up its safety inspection of Coastline Drive to the week of July 20. It had been scheduled for mid-August.

In a statement, Curry said:

“This is the kind of dedication and sense of urgency you can expect from my administration. The collapse on Liberty Street and resultant restriction of Coastline Drive has impacted Downtown businesses and disrupted traffic long enough. This inspection of Coastline Drive will help define and speed up repairs to rectify this important issue as quickly and safely as possible.”

The inspection will, according to the statement from the Mayor’s Office, “evaluate the safety of the structure and provide important information to aid in the development of repair options.” Curry’s team has a meeting scheduled with the FDOT next week regarding temporary repairs to make the roadway fully usable again.
