U.S. Rep. David Jolly released the first official campaign video of his run for the Senate on Wednesday.
Called simply “The Conservative,” the new ad touts his ideological credentials on issues related to education, Florida fisheries and veterans’ affairs in an appeal to the GOP base.
“A little more than a year ago” Jolly begins, Pinellas voters elected the 42-year-old lawmaker “in a special election that the pundits said we couldn’t win; a Republican couldn’t win; a conservative couldn’t win.”
Jolly’s 13th Congressional District was ordered redrawn this month by the Florida Supreme Court and set off a chain reaction of campaign moves by local pols. He hit many of the high points familiar to Republican activists and consumers of conservative media throughout the new two-minute spot.
“We have the opportunity to win again, with a conservative message that says to Washington ‘We will not accept a listless economy,'” Jolly says from a podium, speaking to a room of supporters.
“We will not tolerate a failed foreign policy that leaves American vulnerable. We also will not accept border security laws that do not work and a healthcare system that Washington now says is not allowed to work.”
Jolly officially declared his candidacy Monday in his native north Pinellas, beginning the day with a trip to the burial site of the late U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, who represented his House district for more than 30 years before his death in 2013.
Jolly faces a slew of opponents in his senatorial quest including Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis.
