The July ADP Regional Employment Report estimates Florida added 13,700 jobs for the month, with most new jobs in the service-producing sector.
The report pegs the Sunshine State as the second-best performer in the South, with Texas taking the top spot after adding 15,500 last month. Nationally, California had the biggest gain at 27,600 jobs. The Florida numbers are short of the state’s six-month average of 15,910 new jobs a month, which spiked after a 21,400-job gain in June.
Released Tuesday, the reporting breakdown shows 200 of the new jobs went into the mining and construction industries, with the remaining 13,500 heading to service-producing industries. Of those, the trade, transportation and utility sector added 4,900 and the professional and business services sector added 1,700. The report does not specify what industries added the other 6,900 jobs.
The South region, which includes 15 states and Washington D.C., posted the highest numbers, adding 71,000 jobs overall. The West region added 51,000 jobs; the Midwest gained 36,000 jobs, and the Northeast edged up by 28,000 jobs.
The ADP numbers, put out in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics, track nonfarm private employment based on company payroll data, as well as employment figures released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. ADP’s in-house data covers about 23 million U.S. employees.
