Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs has called for a review of computers being used by county employees for further potential activities involving websites such as Ashley Madison.
On Sunday, Orange-Osceola County State Attorney Jeff Ashton admitted using the website, the slogan for which is “Life is short. Have an affair.”
A statement from the county reads:
“Orange County has an Enterprise content filter to block inappropriate websites. However, Mayor Teresa Jacobs has asked our Information Systems & Services team to conduct a complete review of the database to be sure that no employee has used taxpayer time or resources to access this site.”
Ashton denies using county computers to visit the site, but does admit to using the public Wi-Fi available to Orange County courthouse visitor on different occasions. If any employees are found to have committed a crime involving Ashley Madison such as using government resources for payment or any other related activities, the Orange-Osceola county State Attorney’s office would still prosecute the offense.
The former Casey Anthony prosecutor says he did not break any laws and has no plans on stepping down. He was first elected in 2012 after the nationally watched murder case, and will be up for re-election next year.
