The Florida House of Representatives has released committee assignments for the 2016 Legislative Session, including a brand new “Select Committee on Affordable Healthcare Access” created Wednesday.
“I am directing the Select Committee to explore policy options to reduce the cost of health care for consumers and improve the transparency of health care information, make recommendations for legislative action, and propose legislation to implement those recommendations,” House Speaker Steve Crisafulli wrote in a memo to members.
That panel will be chaired by GOP state Rep. Jose Oliva of Miami Lakes, who is slated to be speaker in 2018-20, and will be vice-chaired by state Rep. Jason Brodeur, a Sanford Republican.
Republican members include Matt Gaetz, Jamie Grant, Matt Hudson, MaryLynn Magar, Jeanette Nuñez, Cary Pigman, Paul Renner, and Chris Sprowls. Democrats are Janet Cruz, Evan Jenne, Mia Jones, Jared Moskowitz, and Alan Williams.
Brodeur will continues to chair the House Health & Human Services Committee.
State Rep. Ritch Workman, a Melbourne Republican, remains chair of the powerful Rules, Calendar & Ethics Committee. His name recently turned up in a data dump involving subscribers to AshleyMadison.com, the website for married people looking for affairs. Workman has since apologized to his constituents.
