No-party candidate Arthur Sosa filed to run against Rep. Frank Artiles Monday, giving the incumbent legislator a third opponent for 2016.
Sosa is running as part of the VoteFamily platform, which has a laser focus on reforming the Department of Children and Families. He is the second candidate from the group to file after Mario Jimenez, who is challenging Sen. Anitere Flores in District 37.
According to the group’s website, candidates are set to file for Senate districts 35 and 39, as well as eight other South Florida House districts.
Artiles is also facing Democrats Robert Asencio and Omar Rivero in his reelection bid.
Through the end of July, Asencio had raised $15,435 in campaign funds with Rivero, who lost handily to Artiles in 2014, reporting no contributions.
Since filing, Artiles has raised $83,750 and spent $57,890, leaving him with $25,859 cash on-hand heading into August.
The third-term lawmaker has gone unopposed for the Republican nomination since the district was redrawn in 2012.
