On a number of issues, there is completely no difference between Jeb Bush and Donald Trump – including campaign tactics and abortion, so say the progressives at super-PAC American Bridge.
With the new website JebTrump.com, American Bridge launched a digital media campaign featuring a quiz showing “zero inches of space” between the Republican former governor and Trump, the outspoken real-estate billionaire leading the 2016 presidential race.
First reported by The Hill, the quiz is a parody of a recent ad released by the Bush campaign that attempted to highlight differences between the two candidates, particularly with a focus on Trump’s earlier support of liberal positions.
An American Bridge spokesman declined to say to say how much the ads cost, only telling Jonathan Easley of The Hill it is a “classy buy.”
The quiz gives users a (decidedly tongue-in-cheek) choice: Support Bush, who said “‘give me a better word’ than ‘anchor babies’ to describe U.S. citizens” or Trump, who said, “‘give me a different term than ‘anchor babies’ to describe U.S. citizens.”
Another choice is between Trump, who mocked his opponent for “low energy,” and Bush, who mocked his opponent for being a “’germophobe’ when it comes to shaking hands.”
American Bridge also tries to make a similar connection between Bush and Trump over Planned Parenthood, Obamacare, climate change and “federal protections for LGBT Americans.”
“Jeb Bush has been throwing punches at GOP frontrunner Donald Trump for quite a while now — all of them missing the mark,” the online-only ad continues. “He’s now trying to draw some quizzically presented distinctions between himself and The Donald — and he’s missing on that, too. So we’re helping him out with a little correction.”
Easley writes Democrats are delighted with Trump’s rise in the polls and the effect he has on the Republican presidential race; many hope the rest of the GOP field will respond by moving to the right, further damaging their chances in 2016.
