Real estate broker and small businessman G.G. Galloway announced on Thursday he will seek the 6th Congressional District seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis in 2016.
Galloway, co-owner of Coldwell Banker Commercial Benchmark and resident of Ormond Beach, laid out a platform in a release consistent with contemporary Republican values – as he put it, “fiscal responsibility, reining in federal overreach, and lowering taxes.”
The 61-year-old has never sought elected office before – a fact Galloway claims as a feather in his cap.
“I am not a career politician,” said Galloway in his kick-off announcement. “I have lived the American dream of building a business and raising a family, and now I want to work to make sure that same opportunity will be available for my children and grandchildren.”
Galloway also sounded some familiar notes regarding activist government and what he said were its deleterious effects on the economy.
“I know what it takes for an economy to grow,” said Galloway. “From Obamacare to needless and counterproductive EPA regulations, federal policies are crippling rather than supporting our free enterprise system.”
Galloway listed a panoply of civil and charitable groups he is or has been affiliated with, including the local Rotary Club, YMCA Board of Directors,Volusia County Association of Responsible Developers, Daytona Beach Association of Realtors and Team Volusia, the county’s economic development corporation.
Galloway played football at Clemson University, where he earned a degree in business and marketing. He briefly played with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.
