Lock down your Ford trucks, Florida: The full-size pickup is the state’s most stolen vehicle, according to a new survey by an insurance-related research group.
The 2006 Ford pickup leads the number of stolen vehicles in Florida, with 2,091 reported stolen in 2014, says the National Insurance Crime Bureau, a nonprofit anti-fraud organization backed by the insurance industry.
The 2000 Honda Civic was in second place (1,060 reported stolen) and the 1996 Honda Accord was in third (905 reported stolen).
The bureau’s annual “Hot Wheels” report identifies the kinds of vehicles that are heisted the most each year.
The report uses vehicle-theft data submitted to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) by local law enforcement.
Nationwide, the Honda Accord is the #1 most stolen (51,290), the Honda Civic is #2 (43,936), and the Ford pickup is #3 (28,680).
The group’s top advice for protecting your ride: Lock your car and take your keys.
“It’s simple enough, but many thefts occur because owners make it easy for thieves to steal their cars,” a press release said.
