National security and containing Iran highlight CD 13 Democratic hopeful Eric Lynn’s second short video introducing himself to Pinellas County voters.
It comes a day before the House of Representatives may vote on whether to approve the nuclear deal between the P5+1 countries and Iran.
Lynn, who worked in Barack Obama‘s Defense Department under three different DOD secretaries, has not yet stated whether he would support the deal and doesn’t commit in the new video.
“Keeping our country safe is a priority for me as a father,” Lynn intones in the ad. “And it will stay that way as your representative in Congress. I’ll continue working to ensure that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon, work I started years ago at the Pentagon.”
The deal would reduce Iran’s number of centrifuges — which enrich uranium — from about 19,000 to about 6,000 and would limit the level of enrichment to 3.67 percent, far below weapons grade, for at least 15 years. Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium will be reduced by 98 percent, from about 10,000 kilograms to 300.
Both houses of Congress are expected to vote soon on a resolution to disapprove the deal. A majority of the GOP-led Congress opposes the plan, as does the majority of Americans.
A Pew Research poll published Tuesday shows that only 21 percent approve of the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program reached among the United States, Iran and other nations. Nearly half (49 percent) disapprove of the agreement, while 3-in-10 (30 percent) offer no opinion. During the past six weeks, the share approving of the agreement has fallen 12 percentage points
Lynn is the only declared candidate of either major political party who is running in the CD 13 seat. Other potential candidates appear to be waiting until the district lines are redrawn and approved by the Florida Supreme Court.
