The Republican Party of Florida is set to give presidential candidates three options to get on the March primary ballot.
Party executive director Brad Herold says a rule proposed Thursday would automatically put candidates on the ballot if they attend a party-hosted summit in November. The party’s executive committee will vote on the rule Friday.
If candidates don’t attend the Sunshine Summit, they would also be able to make the ballot by paying a $25,000 filing fee to the state party or by submitting petitions with 125 signatures from each of the state’s 27 congressional districts.
The party was considering making the summit the sole criteria for making the ballot, but a rules committee included the other options after concerns were raised by some campaigns and party activists.
