Paul Paulson gets help from Florida Young Republicans in Orlando mayoral race

Businessman and veteran Paul Paulson will be getting help on the ground later this month, when Young Republicans from across the state will deploy to Orlando to help his attempt to deny incumbent Buddy Dyer a fifth term as mayor.

“I’m incredibly excited that FFYR is doing a deployment to help with the campaign,” said Paulson campaign communications director Elaine Sarlo. “I think it demonstrates that many across the age spectrum are unhappy with the direction our city has taken, and are ready for real leadership, and we have found that in Paul Paulson.”

The momentum has shifted Dyer’s way in the past couple of days, with firefighters and police unions coming out against Paulson’s pledge to rollback the 17.7 percent property tax increase passed by the Orlando City Council last year.

Dyer’s camp says it’s impossible to keep that promise without making cuts to public safety.

Paulson is hoping to fuel a movement similar to that in the Winter Park mayoral race this year when eventual winner Steve Leary inspired confidence from state party leaders and used resources they lent him to win.

Young Republicans also played a role in Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry‘s win earlier this year.

Medical student “SunshineLinda Grund is also challenging Dyer, though her campaign seems to have garnered little traction so far. Election day is Nov. 3.
