The crowded three way Republican primary in HD 19 now has company, at least in terms of one man, on the Democratic side, as Hubert Snodgrass, a 66 year old retiree from Crescent Beach who has served as Vice-Chair of the Putnam County Democrats, filed on October 15.

In a Friday phone interview with FloridaPolitics.com, Snodgrass described himself as a “firm believer in Democracy” who was driven to run by a belief that democracy requires competition.

“When one party runs unopposed, the system isn’t working efficiently,” Snodgrass said.

He had tried to draft others to run, but they were reluctant, so Snodgrass decided to “step up and do it.”

The Putnam Dems haven’t run a candidate in the district since 2008.

Snodgrass’ focus will be on education, including a reconsideration of state programs regarding testing and Common Core, and bringing vocational education to schools.
