As FloridaPolitics.com wrote last week, there are some existential questions about the Neighborhood Improvement and Community Enhancement Committee, and at least one regular has had enough, getting nasty about NICE in an email to Mayor Lenny Curry and Council President Greg Anderson.
Saying that the “NICE Committee is ineffective” and “leadership needs a change,” the writer says that the Committee, helmed by Garrett Dennis, “is embarrassing to our City.”
The writer’s beefs are myriad.
“Very few senior City staff show up to the meetings, [and] questions from committee members to City officials and the public go unanswered week after week,” he writes, adding that members of the committee “do not stay the entire meeting.”
He would also like the name of the committee changed back to Blight, and the meeting moved from Monday afternoon, which is a “terrible time to meet.”
Adding that, contrary to the way previous committee Chairwoman Denise Lee ran the committee, copies “of documents are not provided to the public,” the writer also contends that the “chairman refuses to solicit, ask for and gather ideas from the citizens in attendance.”
Given that a week ago, committee member John Crescimbeni floated the idea of resigning from the committee in light of some of the concerns this writer expresses, it will be interesting to see whether committee Chairman Garrett Dennis begins to take to heart what has become a wave of criticism.
