Alan Grayson vs. Patrick Murphy and other notes from “Florida’s Future” Day 1

Democrats copy

The intense Democratic primary for U.S. Senate between Alan Grayson and Patrick Murphy has been one of the main storylines from the Florida Democratic Party’s “Florida’s Future” state convention.

The two candidates shared several rooms yesterday including a meeting of the Labor Caucus walked past each other while addressing attendees and also the kick-off reception, where the two split crowd support as they stood on opposite sides of the room with supporters (story HERE). Then, there was the controversy regarding the Progressive Caucus, which firmly supports Grayson, and whose meeting passed by his challenger (story HERE).

And finally, this morning, ahead of a day where the two will share a few meetings, the Grayson campaign passed out flyers ahead of the FDP general meeting featuring a $2,300 check Murphy cut for Mitt Romney‘s campaign.

Other notes heading into the second day:

There will be a focus on the convention on the Orlando Mayor race and helping incumbent Buddy Dyer past Tuesday’s finish line. There will be GOTV efforts by volunteers throughout the day.

Central Florida congressional candidates are also making the rounds.

Former Orlando Police Chief and District 10 candidate Val Demings spoke before the Caribbean caucus, and will be speaking with the African-American and Woman’s caucuses Saturday. Her opponent, Geraldine Thompson, also met with with voters Friday.

District 9 candidates Susannah Randolph and Darren Soto were on hand. Randolph spoke with the LGBT, Veterans, and Progressive caucuses Friday and will talk to the Women’s caucus Saturday. Soto met with voters last night and will headline the Hispanic caucus meeting Saturday, which will also feature Grayson and Murphy.

We’ll have coverage for you throughout the day.
