Clay Yarborough poised to enter HD 12 fray

jacksonville - gorgeous

The talk from informed parties isn’t going away: former Jacksonville City Council President Clay Yarborough is leaning strongly toward taking a run at the House Distgrict 12 seat, to succeed Lake Ray.

That would set up a three-way dance among three former two-term Republican district council people.

Now in the race are Richard Clark and Don Redman, both of whom face existential threats to their viability.

Though Clark has raised more than $50,000, a significant “ABC: Anybody But Clark” contingent has emerged, both locally and in Tallahassee, where Yarborough has gotten strong urging to run from elected officials and opinion leaders, reliable sources say.

A potential attack line on Clark: his six-figure gig as a lobbyist for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority,

It takes little imagination to envision a scenario where that is used against him in a well-crafted mailer by an enterprising PAC.

Redman, meanwhile, has flatlined in fundraising, raising nothing for the past two months.

Undaunted, the former two-term councilman posited on Facebook, hours after our article dropped that reports his fundraising stasis, that his “campaign for State Legislative District 12 is moving into another phase,” and that he is accepting campaign contributions.

The question is: Who is offering them?

Expect Yarborough to make his move in the coming days.
