Extensive Enterprises Media received three first-place awards at the 63rd annual Florida Press Club Excellence in Journalism Competition. EEM took home trophies for Best Independent Blog for SaintPetersBlog and Best News Website (in its class) for Florida Politics.
Cartoonist Bill Day also received special recognition for best editorial cartooning for his contributions to both sites.
The Florida Press Club – made up of 38 newspapers statewide – is a nonprofit, volunteer organization for writers, editors, photographers and other support staff who work for various news organizations throughout the state. Now in its 65th year, the Press Club recognizes the best news reporting and writing in Florida with its annual Excellence in Journalism contest and awards banquet.
On Saturday evening, the group held its awards ceremony at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.
Newspapers and websites are ranked in a range of classes A through D; SaintPetersBlog won as best overall independent blog; Florida Politics as the best news website for its class (beating out the Orlando Business Journal and the South Florida Business Journals).
