Approximately 100 enthusiastic supporters gathered at the Tampa Yacht and Country Club Wednesday night to hear a rousing speech from Republican state Representative Dana Young.

Young, who serves as House Majority Leader, is currently running unopposed for a fourth term in South Tampa’s District 60.

During her 15-minute speech, Young vowed to continue to work on the issues she has been passionate about for several years, particularly Florida’s endangered water supply.

“I’ve had the ability to do some very impactful things for Tampa Bay, particularly in the area of water supply and environmental protection,” Young told the crowd. “This session, we’ll be working again on water policy for springs protection as well as Everglades restoration.”

Young added that her other priorities include school choice, tax relief for Floridians and passing a balanced budget, something she hopes will include money to continue to relocate the USF Morsani College of Medicine/USF Health Heart Institute to Downtown Tampa.

Young then implored the audience, filled with people she recognized as “good friends,” to go right to her if they are displeased with anything she does (or doesn’t) do.

“I am absolutely bullish on Tampa and am excited about what we’ve been able to achieve by working together,” Young added. “With the Legislature, the mayor and private citizens like Jeff Vinik all working together and not looking at political parties but what’s best for our city, we’ll be able to accomplish tremendous things. I think it’s only the beginning.”

“I am one of you and will hopefully always be your friend that can get things done,” Young said.

“It’s very humbling and I value your friendship and support,’ she said to cheers from the crowd. “If there is anything you don’t like that I do, please call me first and I promise, I’ll be on top of it.”

Young concluded by noting the diverse crowd, which she called “a cross-section of what makes Hillsborough County and Tampa absolutely perfect!”

Dana Young addressed the crowd of about 100, whom she called friends. "I've played tennis with many of you, had dinner with you. I am one of you."
