Jennifer Green’s Liberty Partners of Tallahassee has boosted its government affairs portfolio with the addition of Douglas McAlarney as General Counsel.
McAlarney will become the firm’s fourth on-staff lobbyist.
McAlarney brings more than two decades of experience as a political strategist working with advocacy groups, legislators and prominent political campaigns.
As General Counsel, Green says McAlarney will be a key strategic adviser on policy development, public affairs and legal management.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Doug on to the Liberty Partners team,” said Green, the firm’s President and owner, in a statement. “My colleagues and I have worked in the political arena with him over the years and are privileged to have someone with his diverse background, education, political acumen and strong work ethic on our team.”
Previously, McAlarney served as government consultant for The Personal Insurance Federation of Florida (PIFF), where he lobbied the Florida Senate, House and executive branch on property & casualty insurance issues. As a political consultant, McAlarney worked with a diverse range of clients, including more than 50 legislators and interest groups. He is also a veteran of two presidential campaigns, U.S. Senate and Congressional campaigns, as well as International Republican Institute missions to Ecuador, Pakistan and West Africa, numerous Florida House campaigns and the 2000 Florida presidential recount.
“I’m honored to join the Liberty Partners team as General Counsel and a full-time lobbyist,” McAlarney said. “I’m truly impressed by the firm’s philosophy of representing only one client in a specific industry and unparalleled client service.
“That kind of loyalty is rare in Tallahassee and incredibly refreshing,” he added.
During 11 years of military service, McAlarney served four years’ active duty in the U.S. Army, including a stint with the Army’s Berlin Brigade during the fall of the Berlin Wall. McAlarney went on to serve four years in the inactive reserve and three years in the Florida National Guard’s 20th Special Forces Group, MI Detachment.
McAlarney has lectured at the University of Florida Graduate Program in Campaign Management, an instructor at the League of Cities Campaign School, a guest editorialist in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and the Jacksonville Business Journal, a guest on 1040 AM Tallahassee, quoted in numerous news outlets and published in the Florida State University Law Review.
McAlarney lives in Tallahassee with his wife and son.
