While there’s no expectation that U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and R&B rapper/singer Ne-Yo will be recording together in the near future, they will share the same red carpet on Saturday in Atlanta for the Trumpet Awards.
“I am honored to be a 2016 Trumpet Awards recipient, and pledge to continue my work in the arena of civil rights and economic equality for all Americans,” Brown said in a news release, which doesn’t, regrettably, address the subpoena she was served at Bono’s on Norwood Avenue in Jacksonville in January.
The Trumpet Awards, created in 1993 by Turner Broadcasting, honor African-American men and women who have succeeded against immense odds.
Brown and Ne-Yo will be honored along with other women of the Congressional Black Caucus. However, Ne-Yo, a rapper/singer who was Drake before Drake, is probably the biggest mainstream star of the show … and the only one with his own clothing line, which includes such must-own accouterments as the “Ms. Right Booty” shorts, a steal at just $20.
