Longtime environmental activist and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorsed U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson Wednesday in Florida’s U.S. Senate Race.
Kennedy, son of the U.S. senator, nephew of the president and a progressive politics champion in his own right, cited Grayson’s opposition to the Keystone pipeline and his “courage to stand up to the wealthy corporate interests.”
Grayson, an Orlando Democrat, is in a race with U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, a Jupiter Democrat, among others, for the Democratic nomination. Murphy is running away with the campaign finance lead and with endorsements from the mainstream of the Democratic Party, while Grayson has focused on the progressive wing.
“When Republicans in Congress tried to intimidate President Obama and Congressman Grayson into backing the Keystone Pipeline, Rep Grayson never buckled, never blinked,” Kennedy stated in a news release issued by Grayson’s campaign.
“I’ve always admired Alan’s courage,” Kennedy added, along with, “Alan is the lone, true environmental defender in this Senate race.
Grayson replied that Kennedy “has built impressively upon his family’s already legendary liberal legacy, and I can think of few defenders of justice and the environment that I would want more in my corner.”
