SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to blast off from Cape Canaveral Feb. 24 to carry an SES television service satellite into orbit the satellite company announced this morning.

The time of the launch, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, has not been announced. SES stead SpaceX has Feb. 25 as a backup date for launch.

The mission has been delayed multiple times from what had initially been a plan to launch the satellite last summer. SpaceX had a Falcon 9 explode over Cape Canaveral June 28 and put all its subsequent planned launches on hold. The company got back to launching in December, but still has a backup in its manifest.

The Boeing-built SES-9 satellite would provide video services for 22 million Asian households, serving markets in Indonesia, the Philippines and South Asia.
