The fallout continues over President Barack Obama‘s endorsement of U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy in the Democrats’ race for Florida’s U.S. Senate seat.
On Wednesday Murphy announced he had received the endorsements of Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Murphy is one of only two Democrats the president has endorsed in contested U.S. Senate primary races this year.
Grayson’s U.S. Senate campaign swung back with a Grayson-like response about the endorsements.
On Thursday, Murphy took issue with those comments, which had sought to say it was the Democratic establishment’s way to support the establishment candidate, and amounted to “arrogant Empire-Strikes-Back efforts by the Democratic politburo.”
Murphy’s campaign expressed outrage that Grayson’s campaign called Obama “arrogant,” and compared his leadership style to Soviet Union Russia.
“Last year, Alan Grayson bragged that he was going to run a “Barack Obama style campaign,” and he praised the President following this year’s State of the Union, but it’s clear that Alan Grayson doesn’t care about the Democratic Party or President Obama— just himself,” the Murphy campaign countered.
“The choice before Democratic voters couldn’t be more clear,” Murphy stated in a release issued by his campaign. “I’m honored to receive President Obama and Vice President Biden’s endorsement, and look forward to campaigning shoulder-to-shoulder with them for Florida’s middle class families. Meanwhile, Hedge Fund Manager Alan Grayson is attacking the President and is under ethics investigation for abusing his official position to line his own pockets.”
