Get out and vote.
That’s the message Gov. Rick Scott sent during a news conference Monday in Southwest Florida. Scott was in Fort Myers to tout tax cuts and job numbers, but talked briefly about the 2016 presidential primary.
“If you haven’t voted, go vote,” he said Monday. “It’s going to be an exciting day. This will be the biggest state this fall and, right now, it clearly might impact the entire primary season.”
Scott has declined to endorse a Republican candidate before the Florida primary. On Monday, he said he trusted Floridians to choose a candidate.
“I’m going to leave it to the citizens,” he said. “Think back to 2010, when I ran. I came into the race and everyone endorsed the Republican establishment candidate, a lot of Republicans asked me to get out of the race. I waited and listened to the citizens of the state. They elected me and I worked diligently every day to make sure I do what I ran on. I trust the voters to make the right decision.”
More than 2 million Floridians have already voted. Polls close at 7 p.m.
As for Scott, he won’t be at his Naples polling place Tuesday. Collier County elections officials said he voted by mail earlier this month.
