David Rivera is looking to make a comeback, raising more than $45,000 in just two weeks last month.
State records show Rivera raised $45,075 in March for his state House District 118 bid. Rivera jumped into the race on March 16; the one-month fundraising period ended on March 11.
Rivera served in the Florida House for eight years. In 2010, he was elected to Congress. He lost his seat in 2012 after he got caught up in a federal investigation into a campaign finance scheme.
Rivera loaned his campaign $50,000 during the one-month fundraising period. He spent $486 in March, and according to state records, all of those expenses were paid to PayPal.
Rivera faces two Republicans — Anthony Rodriguez and Steven Anthony Rojas Tallon — in the August primary. Rodrigues raised $8,050 during March and spent $688. Tallon did not raise any money but paid $453 in March.
Democrat Robert Asencio and Arthur A. Sosa, a no party affiliation candidate, are also running in House District 118. Asencio raised $110 and loaned his campaign $1,000 in March; he spent $973 in March. Sosa has not raised any money.
All five candidates are vying to replace Rep. Frank Artiles in the Florida House. Artiles is running for the Florida Senate.
