Florida GOP to pick final convention delegates during spring meeting

Call them the Final 15.

Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) officials are scheduled to select the remaining 15 delegates during the state party’s spring meeting next week. The meeting is scheduled for May 13-14 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tampa.

“With the RNC convention only months away, our spring quarterly meeting will be a significant event with vigorous grassroots workshops and the selection of 15 of our 99 delegates who will represent our state in Cleveland,” said Blaise Ingoglia, chairman of the RPOF and a Spring Hill state representative. “With the tremendous gains the Florida GOP has already made this year, our quarterly meeting will serve to continue building our state party as a turnkey organization.”

Florida will send 99 delegates to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Of those, 81 were selected by local Republican party leaders within each congressional district, while 15 delegates are considered at-large and are suggested by the executive committee. The remaining three delegates are the state party chairman, and national chairman and chairwoman.

But before they select the delegates, Republicans will take part in a host of meetings, including ones aimed at voter turnout, women and minority engagement, and a “Next Generation GOP Roundtable.”

The state party’s executive board is scheduled to meet at 12:30 p.m. on May 14.
