The divorce of HD 14 Democratic candidate Kim Daniels, a legal imbroglio that loomed over Daniels’ failed Jacksonville City Council re-election in 2015, was finalized Wednesday.

The agreement is sealed, and the divorce decree brings an end to one of the messiest chapters in recent Jacksonville political history.

Under the umbrella of their shared Spoken Word Ministries, Kim and Ardell Daniels acquired a number of properties in the Jacksonville and Davie areas, leading to some speculation as to her residency status in Jacksonville that neither the councilwoman nor Council’s Rules Committee had a particular interest in addressing.

Left unaddressed: the fate of the so-called “parsonage” in Davie, for which there is a foreclosure hearing May 10.

Bought in 2010 by Kim Daniels with a G.I. Bill loan, the Davie home was quitclaimed to Spoken Word Ministries in October 2010. In April 2011 it was quitclaimed back to Kim and Ardell Daniels, at the same time she was running for office in Jacksonville. In November 2011 it was quitclaimed back, again, to Spoken Word Ministries. All the while, the home carried the same G.I. Bill mortgage.

Also up in the air: the fate of Spoken Word Ministries.

On his website bio, Ardell Daniels still claims to “oversee” their ministry with his now ex-wife, a challenging arrangement in light of their marital dissolution.

Through the end of March, Daniels trailed both Terry Fields and Leslie Jean-Bart in both fundraising and cash on hand. April figures have yet to surface for the candidates.
