State Rep. Jamie Grant, most recently of Tampa’s House District 64, will be seeking another term in his seat.

By filing paperwork the day before Thanksgiving, the 32-year-old Republican was the first candidate in the race, according to the state Division of Elections.

First elected in 2010, Grant was re-elected in November, except that the House rejected the results and vacated the office due to an ongoing lawsuit over Daniel Matthews, a write-in candidate.

Grant’s former GOP challenger, Tampa engineer Miriam Steinberg also filed for a race Monday as a Republican with the Division of Elections.

Steinberg also named her husband, Michael Steinberg, as her campaign treasurer.

Michael Steinberg, a Democrat, is the Tampa attorney who filed the lawsuit against write-in candidate Daniel Matthews, arguing the write-in was unfairly preventing Democrats and non-party affiliated voters from casting ballots an open primary earlier this year.

As this is a new election, other candidates may also enter the special election ordered by Gov. Rick Scott for the district covering parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.

The special primary is set for Feb. 10, and a special general election is on April 21.
