Henry Kelley: Expect gun control talk at Sandy Hook anniversary

On Dec. 14, President Obama will mark the one-year anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook.  Here’s what the nation should agree to — no parent should ever have to endure the tragedy of burying his or her child.

And that’s where the agreement will end.  Obama will use this opportunity to insult gun owners, call for new gun-control measures, and do anything to push his agenda and distract citizens from the Affordable Care Act, which is causing the cancellation of more than 80 million health insurance policies.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the gun-control thugs of Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) will return from their extended weekend trip to the Bahamas to declare that guns must be seized from law-abiding citizens to ensure that “Sandy Hook never happens again”.

Allow me to offer a pre-buttal to President Petulant and Mayor Big Gulp:

“Dear Sirs:

On behalf of law-abiding gun owners everywhere regarding your latest gun control attempts: Get lost.”

The Second Amendment is clear.   The Supreme Court upheld it in 2008.  The law is settled, right?  That’s what we hear every day — Obamacare is the law, so be happy in your work and comply or we call you racist.

But no, the left will insist on restricting my rights.  The left will ask, “Why do I need semi-automatic weapons or 30-round magazines”?  It’s none of your damned business, that’s why.

At some point, we lost sight of a simple American precept — the right to be left alone.  In Florida, we even have privacy written into the Florida Constitution in Article I, Section 23.

Here’s what you could do. You could find the criminals who have guns and take their weapons.  Show America that we have the backbone to go after street gangs and criminals with guns.

Yet, for some reason, as a law-abiding American, I am made out to be the criminal, and it’s my rights that must be disregarded.  So, since you didn’t learn your lesson from the legislators in Colorado who lost recall ballots — gun owners are choosing to, yes, I’m going to say it, Stand Our Ground.

Because if you haven’t heard, calling us “racists” just isn’t getting the results anymore, and now we are down to facts.  In Florida, violent crime is down since Stand Your Ground was passed (Source: FDLE).  Concealed Carry Permits are way, way up.  And yet, the Wild West scenarios haven’t happened.  In fact, just the opposite is occurring.

It’s almost useless for me to suggest that there’s a direct link between prescription psychotropic drug use, gun-free zones, and mass shootings.  So-called “liberals” no longer have open minds, but in fact are quite dogmatic.  Indeed, one can say they are “un-progressive” because they refuse to recognize data.

So, Mr. President, use the Sandy Hook anniversary to announce a crackdown on gang violence, and that you will be using our militarized police forces to go after criminals with guns.  You might actually get support on that.

But until then, you can expect a fight over gun control — and we aren’t retreating this time around.
