Gravis Poll: Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 4 in Florida

To all the political junkies yearning for a contested Republican convention this summer: Not so fast. It’s still possible for Donald Trump to clinch the nomination by the end of the primaries on June 7. His path is narrow and fraught with peril. But it’s plausible and starts with a big win on Tuesday in his home state New York primary. (AP Photo/Charles Krupa, File)

Donald Trump

Hillary Clinton maintains a four-point lead over Donald Trump among Florida registered voters in the latest poll released Sunday by Gravis Marketing.

The poll found the likely Democratic presidential candidate is preferred by 46 percent of voters and the presumed Republican presidential candidate by 42.

The poll was taken last Tuesday and Wednesday of more than 2,500 voters, with automated calls. Gravis estimates it has a 2 percent margin of error.

Doug Kaplan, president of the Winter Springs-based polling outfit, said the poll may reflect that Trump has been consolidating the Republican base while Clinton, still battling Vermont’s U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in an increasingly ugly battle, has not.

“Florida is going to be a huge battleground state for this year’s Presidential election and this state is a must win for the GOP if they have any hope of regaining the White House,” Kaplan said. “In recent weeks, Trump has done a good job of gathering his base while Clinton is still in a hotly contested battle with Bernie Sanders — which is rapidly dividing the Democrat party. If she is able to take the nomination, she’ll have to work hard to win over some of those Sanders supporters to maintain her lead in Florida.”
