Gov. Rick Scott made two judicial appointments in South Florida on Monday.

Jose A. Izquierdo, a criminal defense lawyer, was named to a circuit judgeship in the 17th Judicial Circuit serving Broward County.

Izquierdo, 40, of Miramar, most recently practiced on his own and with Izquierdo & Marin, according to a governor’s office news release. He previously was with the Law Offices of Bradford M. Cohen.

Izquierdo received an undergraduate degree from Florida International University and a law degree from the University of Florida. He takes the seat vacated by Cynthia G. Imperato.

Imperato resigned from the bench earlier this year following her 2014 conviction on a misdemeanor DUI charge in Boca Raton, according to reports.

Scott also appointed Michael Davis to be a Broward County judge.

Davis, 37, of Fort Lauderdale, has been a senior assistant attorney general since 2014.

He was previously a senior child best interest attorney with the Florida Guardian Ad Litem Program from 2012-2014.

Davis got his undergraduate degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook and his law degree from Hofstra University.

He fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Eric M. Beller.
