Democrat Susannah Randolph has won the backing of the powerful pro-women’s rights group EMILY’s List in her quest to be elected in Florida’s 9th Congressional District.
EMILY’s list puts training, campaign support and money behind the Democratic candidates it chooses, based primarily on their commitments to pro-choice positions on abortion. The group already has backed Val Demings and Annette Taddeo in other Florida congressional races.
“Susannah Randolph is a progressive champion for the hardworking families of Florida,” Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, stated in a news release issued by the organization. “Susannah has dedicated her career to defending women’s access to health care, protecting the environment, and strengthening Social Security. Her work as a community organizer and the district director for Florida’s Ninth District demonstrates Susannah’s commitment to serving Central Florida and the importance of having her voice in Congress.
Randolph faces Valleri Crabtree, Dena Grayson and state Sen. Darren Soto in the CD 9 Aug. 30 Democratic primary. They all seek to replace Grayson’s newlywed husband and Randolph’s former boss, U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, in the strongly-leaning Democratic district in south Orange, Osceola and east Polk counties.
