In terms of Rick Scott backing the presidential bid of his friend Donald Trump, the governor was early, weighing in less than 24 hours after the Florida primary.
So it was no surprise he welcomed the decision of House Speaker Paul Ryan to endorse the presumptive Republican nominee.
“We need to unify,” Scott said, setting up a contrast between Trump, the “businessman” and “outsider,” and Clinton, the “career politician” who “had her shot … (and) didn’t destroy ISIS.”
Scott trod well-worn turf in his interview Thursday on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto.” He noted that, in 2010, he lacked Republican endorsements in his first run at Florida’s governorship, before reiterating his friendship with Trump and his willingness and strategy to help Trump take Florida.
“I talked to him last Thursday or Friday,” Scott said.
“Hopefully I can have a positive impact,” Scott said, regarding Trump’s chances in Florida. “I won both times, but you have to work.”
With Trump’s strategy still nebulous, it will be interesting to see how he targets Florida, expected by everyone to be a toss-up state in November.
