Supreme Court won’t hear ‘sham candidate’ case in 4th Circuit State Attorney race

Angela Corey

The case of Carol Elizabeth Scott, Paul Bremer, et al. v. Mike Hogan, as Supervisor etc. et al., would have been an interesting test of the viability of a write-in candidate. But Thursday it was denied certification of cause to the Florida Supreme Court by the First District Court of Appeal. [First District Court of Appeal Case Docket]

The DCA declined to expedite the appeal of the case to the Supreme Court, so the case will be considered by a three-judge panel of the First DCA.

The write-in candidate for state attorney of Florida’s 4th Circuit, Kenny Leigh, was put up to running by incumbent State Attorney Angela Corey‘s former campaign manager and a former consultant, neither of whom are now part of her campaign.

For now, the race will stay the same: Corey will run in the Aug. 30 GOP primary against two challengers, Wes White and Melissa Nelson.

No Democrats or independents will vote in that primary, for now, which vexes some Duval, Nassau, and Clay County residents who are not Republicans but wanted to vote in this primary.
