Hillsborough County Commission Chairman Les Miller and his wife, former Tampa City Councilwoman Gwen Miller, are backing Democrat Rena Frazier in the House District 59 race.
Frazier, a Brandon-based attorney, is running in a competitive Democratic primary against Brandon-based schoolteacher Naze Sahebzamani Aug. 30. Frazier has raised more than three times as much campaign cash as Sahebzamani has in the campaign. At the end of May, Frazier had raised more than $94,000, Sahebzamani more than $28,000.
“Rena Frazier has proven her leadership and commitment to her community,” said Les Miller. “Her diverse background of experiences more than qualifies her to serve in the Florida House.”
Frazier said she was honored to get the endorsements from both Millers. “Both have served our community, county and state honorably, and I hope to follow in the footsteps of such great public servants,” she said.
The Florida Democratic Party is backing Frazier, providing financial resources for her in her primary campaign. They did the same thing with HD 63 candidate Lisa Montelione in her race against fellow Democrat Mike Reedy. Reedy ended up dropping out of that race last week.
Sitting back and watching the Democrats battle it out is Dover Republican incumbent Ross Spano, who will take on the winner in November. Spano had raised more than $121,000 at the end of May.
House District 59 encompasses Brandon, Riverview, Valrico, Clair Mel and Progress Village.
