The Republican Party of Florida has a new nickname for Patrick Murphy: “The Most Disappointing Man in Congress.”
On Thursday, the state GOP released a series of memes featuring Murphy. The release, state party officials said, is meant to highlight recent a few of the Treasure Coast Democrat’s “exaggerations and embarrassments.”
The five memes focus on Murphy’s effectiveness in Congress, his credentials, and family connections. The state party also blasts Murphy for vacationing in Nantucket, “while his district is in a toxic algae crisis.”
Blue-green algae plagued the Treasure Coast, clogging up waterways and forcing some communities to close their beaches. Murphy traveled to the Northeast to for the Fourth of July weekend. On June 29, Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in Martin and St. Lucie counties because of the algae blooms.
Murphy faces Alan Grayson in the Aug. 30 Democratic primary. Murphy is widely expected to snatch up his party’s nomination, and the state GOP is gearing up for a fight come this fall.
