Poll shows Mike Hill with a double digit lead over Doug Broxson in SD 1 race

Internal polling shows Hill holds an 18-point lead over Broxson.

Conducted by Data Targeting, the poll found 43 percent of respondents said they would support Hill if the Republican primary were held today; while 25 percent said they would back Broxson. The survey found 30 percent of likely Republican primary voters polled said they were unsure.

The poll found 52 percent of voters living in Escambia County said they supported Hill, compared to 16 percent who said they would back Broxson. In Santa Rosa County, 30 percent of respondents said they would vote for Hill if the election were held today; while 43 percent picked Broxson.

The survey found 46 percent of respondents in Okaloosa County said they would pick Hill; while 54 percent said they were unsure.

Hill, a Pensacola Beach Republican, was first elected to House District 2 in June 2013. The district includes parts of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Broxson was first elected to House District 3 in 2010. The Gulf Breeze Republican’s district includes parts of Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties.

The survey found 46 percent of respondents who self-identified as very conservative said they would support Hill; while 24 percent said they would pick Broxson.

With about a month until the election, the survey found 39 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of Hill; while 6 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion of him. The survey found 39 percent of respondents said they hadn’t heard of him.

The survey found 31 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of Broxson, while 16 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion. The survey found 29 percent of likely primary voters said they never heard of Broxson.

The firm surveyed 303 likely Republican primary voters between July 22 and July 24. The survey has a margin of error at 5.7 percent.
