Although the Senate District 18 race between Rep. Dana Young and Democrat Bob Buesing has been talked about as a contentious one, Young is undoubtedly winning the endorsement battle.
Young has accumulated a slew of endorsements, from national organizations to heavy-hitting statewide and local groups. And while these endorsements are impressive in quality and quantity, Young’s backing also spans the issue spectrum, with a wide range of groups lending their support to the Tampa Bay Republican.
With the economy and jobs continuing to be a top issue among voters, groups who play the biggest role in jobs and job creation are all lining up behind Young, such as the Florida Realtors and the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors, Associated Industries of Florida and the Florida Chamber of Commerce, as well as the National Federation of Independent Business and the Florida Retail Federation. These key groups also have a large number of members living in the district who can help spread the word at the grassroots level, which can play a significant role, tilting the race in her favor.
And, to top it all off, one of Young’s recent endorsements includes GOPAC, a conservative PAC focused on free market values and keeping government spending in check.
In what is being deemed as a tight race, these endorsements certainly make Young stand out from the pack, and I can imagine this is only the start of what is to come from the Young campaign.
