A former senior nurse with the Florida Department of Health is joining Florida TaxWatch as a health care policy analyst.
The Tallahassee-based nonprofit watchdog organization announced the move Thursday. Her first day was Aug. 1.
Allison Wiman “brings more than two decades of experience in nursing and research, from nutrition and school nursing to risk assessments and childhood development,” a press release said.
“Allison is a perfect fit for our world-class research team on health care topics including telehealth, expanding the scope of practice for nurse practitioners, and other issues that affect everyone in the Sunshine State,” said Dominic Calabro, the organization’s president and CEO.
Wiman added: “Florida TaxWatch’s research has set the tone for critical policy discussions in our state. I am proud to join the team and continue my professional and personal mission of helping everyone enjoy a healthy and productive life.”
She has an undergraduate degree in agronomy and biochemistry from Indiana’s Purdue University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida A&M University, and a Master of Public Health from Florida State University.
Wiman was a research associate and senior community health nurse with the state, and “part of an FSU team that taught emergency management and CPR to over 300 students and adults in a remote region of Nepal,” the release said.
A native of northwest Indiana, Wiman is married with three children and has lived in Tallahassee since 1996.
