One of the more interesting narratives of the last couple of weeks in the Jacksonville mayoral race has been Alvin Brown tacking to the left, and Republicans pouncing on that rhetorical evolution to prove that the mayor of Jacksonville has been a “liberal Democrat” all along.
The latest evidence of such: an email from the Duval County Republican Party promoting the May 4 beginning of Early Voting, which posits that “with Lenny Curry pulling ahead, Alvin Brown moves left to appease his liberal Democrat base,” dropping “the disguise to reveal that he’s been a liberal Democrat all along.”
The email presents a synopsis of established themes, including Brown’s recent trip to Tallahassee to advocate for “Expanded Medicaid,” which the email calls “the linchpin of Obamacare.” As well, the email lambasted Brown for his “calls for imposing a 25% minimum wage hike on Jacksonville’s small businesses.”
Then, a rhetorical question: “Why stop there? Why not go to $50 an hour?”
The email closes with a reminder that maverick Democrat Denise Lee recently bashed an Alvin Brown radio ad for being “misleading” and “race-baiting,” an ad that we reported on first. We still await comment from the Brown campaign on this controversy that the Duval Republicans won’t let go away.
