Former Rep. Bill Proctor endorsed State Rep. Travis Hutson today in his bid for the special election for Senate District 6.
Proctor had represented St. Johns, Clay, and Flagler Counties in the Florida House from 2009 through 2012. Hutson currently represents House District 24, which includes Flagler County and parts of St. Johns and Volusia Counties, first in 2012 and subsequently re-elected.
“Because of his support for education and his understanding of the economy,” Proctor said in a statement. “I believe he is the conservative leader this district needs to continue the fight for our local values in the Senate.”
The state of Florida called a special election on January 27 after former Sen. John Thrasher resigned the seat in November to take the job of Florida State University president.
“As a former local representative and advocate for our communities,” Hutson responded, “Bill understands what it takes to get the job done for the First Coast.
“I am proud to have his support.”
In the GOP primary, Hudson faces Dennis McDonald and state Rep. Ronald “Doc” Renuart. The winner faces Democrat David Cox in the special general election on April 7.
Since announcing his Senate candidacy, Hutson also received the endorsement of Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam. Senate District 6 includes Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns Counties, as well as part of Volusia County.
