Personnel note: Brandon Larrabee departing News Service of Florida

News Service of Florida political reporter Brandon Larrabee is trading his reporter’s notebook for a legal pad.

In a recent Facebook post, Larrabee, who has been with NSF since 2011, is leaving professional journalism to attend law school at the University of Richmond.

“I want to get off the sidelines,” he wrote. “(T)here are restrictions on what you can do as a reporter, restrictions that are necessary precisely because it is so important for us to be without fear or favor. I’d like to be part of the action now instead of someone whose job it is to explore and explain it.”

The first week in August will be his last week in Tallahassee, he said.

Before joining NSF in 2011, Larrabee worked for the Florida Times-Union, where he had been the Tallahassee correspondent since 2009. His experience includes the Morris News Service bureau in Atlanta, where he covered the Georgia Legislature and state government for Georgia newspapers. Larrabee graduated from the University of South Carolina.
