Tapped for U.N. post, Carlos Trujillo to remain in Florida House; will still oversee budget cmte.

Carlos Trujillo PURPLE

On Friday, it was announced that President Donald Trump had nominated Republican state Representative Carlos Trujillo to serve as a U.S. representative to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

POLITICO Florida and other news outlets reported that Trujillo’s nomination would prompt Gov. Rick Scott to call a special election to replace Trujillo in House District 105. However, Florida Politics has learned that Trujillo plans to remain in the House while serving in the part-time U.N. post.

According to Fred Piccolo, a spokesman for House Speaker Richard Corcoran, “Chairman Trujillo intends to fulfill his obligations as a state Representative thru the end of the 2018 Legislative Session.”

Piccolo confirmed that Trujillo will remain chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee.

On Sunday, Trujillo took to social media to thank those who congratulated him on his appointment.

Trujillo, a 34-year-old attorney, was elected to the state House in 2010.
