It’s getting a bit heated in the Republican primary for the House District 58 seat between Plant City businesswoman Yvonne Fry and Lawrence McClure.
The seat became vacant earlier this month after Plant City Republican Dan Raulerson left the seat with a full year left on his term.
The Fry campaign is airing two different television ads this week on cable news stations in Hillsborough County.
“Yvonne Life” is a stark ad featuring Fry discussing that she was diagnosed with a hysterectomy back in 1998, and after she informed her doctor that she was pregnant, was told that for her health, she should terminate her pregnancy.
“I knew the answer. That wasn’t a choice for me,” Fry narrates as photos depict her from 19 years ago. “This baby was already alive. We were going to see this through.”
The ad then shows her with her son, Arie, a recent graduate of Plant City High School whom she describes as “the light of my life.”
“I choose life. I gave life. I believe in the sanctity of life.”
The ad should certainly quiet any speculation that Fry is pro-choice.
McClure, Fry’s primary opponent, is a Tampa native and a partner in Streamline Environmental Inc., a Tampa business that works on petroleum cleanup including oil spills and gas station leaks.
The GOP primary election is set for October 10, with the general election on Dec. 19.
