With an explosive growth in technology, the world is now at our fingertips.
Celebrating this innovation revolution is the 2017 Future of Internet & Television Conference — FITConFL – which spotlights many of key internet and TV industry players, a group that includes American veterans.
The three-day conference in Miami showcases top the cable industry’s thought leaders, experts and panels discussing the pressing issues and priorities.
Leading off the second part of FITConFL’s Wednesday activities was a panel on “How Recruiting and Retaining Veterans Improves Florida’s Internet and Television Industry,” hosted by Mike Robertson, vice president of Charter Communication’s Tampa division.
Florida, with one of the largest populations of veterans in the U.S., is home to an internet and television industry with a long-established history of recruiting and employing those who served in the armed forces.
“No one does a better job of recruiting and retaining veterans into the workforce than this industry,” said Brad Swanson, CEO of Florida Internet & Television.
Wednesday’s panel had providers and vendors discuss the “valuable skills and a strong work ethic” veterans bring to the industry. Part of the discussion was on the various recruiting programs and techniques for attracting and retaining high-quality workers.
Panel chair Robertson has a nearly four-decade career in the cable industry, which began with American Television & Communications, Time Warner Cable and Paragon, before joining Bright House Networks, later Charter Communications.
Before moving to Charter, Robertson served as senior vice president of operations for Bright House’s Tampa division.
In the Tampa Bay-area, Robertson is active on the board of directors for Junior Achievement and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. His involvement in the group was key to the launch of the after-school program Bright Kids Network.
Robertson also serves as chair of the newly-rebranded Florida Internet & Television, which is hosting FITConFL through Friday at Trump National Doral Miami, 4400 Northwest 87th Ave. in Doral.
